McFly drummer Harry Judd is no stranger to endurance challenges, having run the London Marathon on three occasions, but for Harriet Scott it will be a step into the unknown as she will be running her first half marathon in over 15 years.
The pair can often be heard on Magic Radio, with Harriet presenting the Breakfast Show weekdays with Gok Wan.
Harriet will be running to raise money for Cash for Kids – the official charity of Magic Radio – which provides support for disabled, disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people in local communities across the UK.
We asked Harry and Harriet for some top Event Day tips.
Harriet said: “This is my first ever half marathon in a very, very long time so I’m not sure I have quite the same amount of tips as Harry but, one thing I have learned through training, and from speaking to more experienced runners, is don’t put yourself under too much pressure. If you find yourself struggling on Event Day, then drop your pace down to a walk. There is nothing wrong with that, you just need to keep moving forwards to the Finish Line.”
Harry, who has been supporting Harriet throughout her training, said: “My biggest tip is try to resist the urge of starting too fast. Your adrenaline will be pumping when you are stood on that Start Line, and it is very easy to get swept along with people who are going faster than you are comfortable with. The best thing you can do is to ignore everyone else and keep to your own plan and don’t go faster than the pace you have trained for, otherwise you will regret it in the later miles!”
