Guide and Support Runner Eligibility Policy

Are you taking part with a guide or support runner?

Participants with disabilities who are registered for any event fully organised by London Marathon Events and require an entry for a guide or support runner can request one by emailing our accessibility team

Please read the Eligibility Policy below before submitting your request.

  • A Guide or Support Runner is a person who provides on-course support to participants with visual, physical, intellectual impairments or complex long-term health conditions.
  • London Marathon Events does not match participants with Guide or Support Runners or provide Guide or Support Runners. If you require assistance in finding a Guide or Support Runner, please contact the Richard Whitehead Foundation here: Need a Support Runner? — The Richard Whitehead Foundation.
  • Participants requesting an entry for a Guide or Support Runner, must provide proof of their disability by emailing our accessibility team. Examples of proof of disability are: Blue Badge, Access Card, PIP letter, Certificate of Visual Impairment or Medical Diagnosis.
  • All approved Guide or Support Runners will receive a complimentary event entry. Details of how to register will be sent directly to the Guide or Support Runner.
  • Guide or Support Runners will receive an official bib number and timing chip and will appear in the final event results.
  • A Guide or Support Runner must start, run and finish with the participant they are supporting. If the Guide or Support Runner finishes more than 60 seconds before or 60 seconds after the participant, they will be disqualified and removed from the official results.
  • If a participant does not start the event, their Guide or Support Runner must not start. The participant must notify the Accessibility Team by emailing our accessibility team to ensure the guide or support runner place is cancelled. Any Guide or Support Runner who starts without the participant will be disqualified. Both the participant and the guide or support runner may be at risk of being banned from future LME events if they are in breach of these rules.
  • Participants requiring an entry for a Guide or Support Runner will normally be allocated one Guide or Support Runner place. If an additional Guide or Support Runner place is required, please email our accessibility team with a clear explanation of this requirement. The event organiser's decision on whether to permit a second Guide or Support Runner will be final.
  • Participants are strongly encouraged to train with their Guide or Support Runner in preparation for the event.
